World Wetlands Day
3 February 2014DEBATE – WORKSHOP IN MARCILLA
5 March 2014The councils of Caparroso, Carcastillo, Falces, Marcilla, Mélida, Milagro, Peralta, Santacara and Villafranca have launched a public awareness-raising campaign on the presence of the European mink in the area (lower reaches of the Arga-Aragon rivers). To spread the knowledge, the councils are offering the inhabitants the possibility of adopting a European mink fluffy toy.
The presentation of the campaign took place this morning at the Mink Territory Information Point located in Falces, attended by the mayors of the above mentioned villages and the heads of the Life + Mink Territory European projects.
The CRANA (Environmental Resource Centre of Navarra), the organisation responsible for the Information Point and the environmental awareness of the "Mink Territory" Project, supported the councils in this initiative, which came about as a result of the demands made by the councils themselves, as a complementary resource to the various workshops conducted as part of a school programme. This is a municipal activity which is complementary to the project and which enhances the scope of the project.
The fluffy toys are on sale at the token price of six Euro, half of which is to cover the manufacturing costs and the other half goes to environmental volunteer projects promoted by the councils. 1,500 toys have been made, to be distributed amongst the councils on the basis of the quantities demanded.
The symbolic adoption of these fluffy toys can be made either through the town halls taking part, the Information Point, or the shops collaborating in the campaign in each locality.
Mink Territory Signage
In addition to the European mink fluffy toy, the Life+ Mink Territory project has prepared other forms of communication to raise the awareness of the general public with regard to the conservation of the riverine environment, consisting in mounting nameplates identifying these municipalities as part of the Mink Territory. The nameplates will be mounted in public places, in public recognition of their collaboration with this project.
